one of the most adorable moments in the series

Beast boy and cyborg drop everything to make sure that Starfire is comfortable telling jokes. They don’t care that they missed the context, laugh along to make her comfortable, then proceed to make asses of themselves JUST so she can have a good laugh too and feel like she BELONGS.

And that is one of many examples of why the original teen titans series was seriously well fucking written as it showed a very HUMAN kind of emotion, feeling like you don’t fit in and watching a joke go wrong and people not finding you funny, then getting to laugh because the people you chose to open up to were caring enough to make fucking sure you felt like you belonged just for a bit.

"And I promise to make some efforts."
When a white teenager named Steve Lohner was stopped by the police last month and refused to show his ID after carrying a loaded shotgun on the streets of Aurora, Colorado (the same city where a mass murderer killed 12 people and injured 70 others in a packed movie theater in July 2012), the teen walked away with nothing but a citation. But when a 22-year-old black kid named John Crawford picked up a mere BB gun in a Walmart store in Dayton, Ohio last week, customers called the police, who then shot and killed him. Here lies a racial disparity that’s difficult for honest people to ignore. How can black people openly carry a real gun when we can’t even pick up a BB gun in a store without arousing suspicion? The answer in America is that the Second Amendment doesn’t really apply to black people.

Shit, neither does the first. As demonstrated by the reaction to protesters in Ferguson.

Except you can’t show a topless woman on TV - and you can’t defibrillate a woman in a bra. So victims of heart attacks on TV are always male. Did you know that a woman having a heart attack is more likely to have back or jaw pain than chest or left arm pain? I didn’t - because I’ve never seen a woman having a heart attack. I’ve been trained in CPR and Advanced First Aid by the Red Cross over 15 times in my life, the videos and booklets always have a guy and say the same thing about clutching his chest and/or bicep.

And people laugh when I tell them women are still invisible in this world.

Things I did not know, but should.

My mom worked for 25 years as an ER nurse and is convinced that a lot of women die simply because folks only know heart attack symptoms that occur in males.

Society thinks our bodies are so scandalous that it’s better to put our lives at risk than to show us how to stay safe

A friend of mine was having a cardiac episode recently, and it began with jaw pain. I had never heard of this before, and god help us, she had to explain to me how cardiac events present in women WHILE HAVING ONE. (I didn’t disbelieve her, I just had idea what the jaw pain meant.)

She is fine now. But if your heart is failing, I suspect you have better things to do than explain to your slow but well-meaning friend the symptoms of a heart attack in women.
